Located on the banks of the Yamuna River, Raj Ghat is a black-marble platform that marks the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. Though the samadhi is uncovered, it is enclosed by a brown stone-wall with Gandhi-jiβs sayings inscribed on it. A stone pathway that leads to the memorial runs along well-kept lawns. Gandhi-jiβs last words, βHey Ramβ, are inscribed on the black marble, which is decorated with yellow marigolds. An eternal flame, perpetually burning in one corner, pays homage to the father of Indian Independence.
